BERLIN — The 3rd annual Ibiza Intl. Film Festival is honoring helmer Terry Gilliam with a retrospective of his work and also paying tribute to the Berlin Intl. Film Festival with its Vicente Ribas Award.
Gilliam, who also serves as one of the Ibiza fest’s patron, has made such films as “Brazil,” “Time Bandits,” “Twelve Monkeys,” “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas,” “The Brothers Grimm,” “Tideland” and, most recently, “The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus,” starring the late Heath Ledger, which is screening at Cannes.
Other patrons include John Hurt, Alan Parker, Bigas Luna, Angela Molina, Nacho Cano and Antonio Isasi-Isasmendi.
Berlinale topper Dieter Kosslick will be on hand to accept the award, which is being given to the German fest for its “worldwide support and promotion” of film.
One of the world’s leading film showcases, the Berlinale is the biggest international festival with an average 270,000 annual admissions.
The Vicente Ribas Award, named after the founder of Ibiza’s first film festival in the 1980s, went to France’s Cinematheque de la Danse last year and in 2007 to Argentina’s Instituto Nacional de Cine y Artes Audiovisuales.
The Ibiza fest runs May 27-June 3.
