There has been a rumor circulating around the internet that The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus’ Los Angeles premier would be on November 2, 2009 at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre. THIS IS NOT TRUE!

The truth of the matter is that the prestigious AFI Film Festival is taking place that week and The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus Will screen for the AFI Film Festival on November 2, 2009, at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre. The festival has announced that Sony Pictures Classics’ “The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus” has been selected as its Centerpiece presentation, with the film making its U.S. premiere at Grauman’s Nov. 2.

The use of the word premier here is not to be mistaken with the film’s official theatrical release premier, however, this is its premier in the US for the AFI Film Festival.

The pic will be released Christmas Day in select theatres.

Director, Terry Gilliam, and star Christopher Plummer are scheduled to attend the Nov. 2 screening.

Plummer and Viggo Mortensen will receive tributes at Grauman’s, with Plummer’s event preceding the screening of his film “The Last Station” on Nov. 3. Mortensen’s tribute will precede the premiere of “The Road” Nov. 4.

The AFI Fest lineup includes 54 narrative features, 13 documentaries and 26 shorts.

The official theatrical release premier of the film has NOT been announced for Los Angeles. As a rule theatrical release premier events, when they take place, are usually scheduled a week to 10 days prior to the public opening of a film.

  1. Thank you for clearing that up. Does the movie showing at the AFI Film Festival give the movie a better chance of getting a wider distribution?

This is one of the single most prestigious film festivals in the States and it is also a point where many of the award winning films show. The fact that this is not only a screening but has been chosen as the centerpiece screening is huge. This is a vastly important film festival for the USA.

Congratulations, one and all! This is wonderful news indeed! AFI Film Festival’s center piece! So excellently fine!
(Also clearing up the other stuff, thanks.)

  4. This is better than a premiere. For me anyway. It means I can attend!
